The responsibilities of an external member for the IC may include:

  • Participating in the investigation process – They actively contribute to the investigation of complaints, ensuring that all parties involved are treated fairly and respectfully.
  • Reviewing policies and procedures – They assist in reviewing and developing policies and procedures related to preventing and addressing sexual harassment within the organization. This helps ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Providing guidance and support – The external member offers guidance to the ICC and educates members about the legal aspects of sexual harassment, principles of natural justice, and the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved.
  • Confidentiality and discretion – They maintain strict confidentiality regarding the complainant, the accused, and all information disclosed during the investigation. This ensures the privacy and protection of individuals involved in the process.
  • Reporting and recommendations – The external member participates in the formulation of the ICC’s final report, providing recommendations for appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.
